In the wake of the NESCO drugs scandal, Mumbai Police’s Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) has achieved another major breakthrough in the Chembur area, busting a drug syndicate spread across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Gujarat.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sachin Vilas Tupe (32), a resident of Palava Phase-2, Dombivli.
In a joint operation, police arrested the accused and seized MDMA pills and LSD dots worth approximately Rs 5 lakh from his possession.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was supplying party drugs to youngsters at high-profile parties and private events across the city.
According to the police, the ANC team received a tip-off that a man carrying a large quantity of banned narcotics would arrive near RCF Gate No. 2 in Chembur. Acting on the information, police laid a trap in the area on the night of May 15. At around 9:20 pm, a suspicious person carrying a black bag was spotted near Sheth Heights.
On seeing the police, he attempted to flee, but the team chased and apprehended him on the spot.
During the search, police recovered two pouches from his bag. One contained 21 MDMA pills in sky blue and pink colours, while the other contained 14 LSD blotter dots.
Forensic examination confirmed that both substances were banned narcotics. The seized drugs are estimated to be worth nearly Rs 5 lakh in the international market.
Investigation has revealed that the accused had been linked to the party drug network for a long time and allegedly supplied narcotics to rave parties, club nights, and private gatherings in several upscale Mumbai localities. Police suspect he reached customers through social media and personal contacts.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he procured the drugs from Churchill, a resident of Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, and Kunj Kakhalotan, a resident of Surat, Gujarat, before supplying them across Mumbai and nearby areas. Police have launched a search for both suppliers and are attempting to unravel the full network.
Police also recovered a mobile phone from the accused, which is expected to yield crucial chats, contacts, and transaction details. Bank transactions, call detail records, and social media activity are also under detailed examination.
According to officials, Mumbai has recently seen a surge in demand for party drugs such as MDMA and LSD, particularly among youngsters. These substances are increasingly being used at clubs, farmhouses, and private parties. In response, the ANC has intensified its anti-drug operations.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and investigators are now probing how many people may have received drugs through this network and who else may be involved.
