24-Year-Old Woman Dies by Suicide Amid Alleged Dowry Harassment: Husband, Father in Law Arrested

A woman from Greater Noida allegedly died after jumping from the roof of her house following continuous dowry related harassment from her husband and in-laws, police said. The victim, identified as Deepika, had reportedly been around 14 months. The incident took place in Jalpura village under the Ecotech 3 police station area of Greater Noida on Sunday. 

Family members alleged that the marriage involved a dowry arrangement that included a Toyota Fortuner and Rs. 1 crore in cash. Despite this, Deepika’s in-laws allegedly continued demanding more dowry even after the marriage. Her family claimed that she was repeatedly harassed and mentally tortured over these demands. 

Officials stated that these continuous harassments allegedly pushed Deepika to take the extreme step. According to police,the woman jumped from the roof on the night of May 17, 2026. Police Officials also stated that severe injury marks were found on her body. 

“According to the information received, on the night of May 17 the aforementioned woman died after jumping from the roof, having been driven to despair by dowry harassment," the police statement said.

After receiving information about the incident, police teams reached the spot and carried out inquest procedures. The body was later sent for the post mortem procedure whose results are still awaited. 

Authorities confirmed that the case falls under the jurisdiction of the Ecotech 3 police station area in Jalpura village. Following a written complaint submitted by Deepika’s father, police registered a case under relevant sections of the law. 

Police have arrested Deepika’s husband Hrithik and her father-in-law Manoj in connection with the case. Further legal proceedings and investigation into the incident are currently underway.
